This congressionally sponsored program provides a 5 percent rebate to prime contractors on subcontracted amounts to Native American-owned Economic Enterprises or Native American Organizations, in compliance with DFARS Clause 252.226-7001.
Certification under this program makes MVS eligible to compete for sole-source and set-aside contracts. At least 3% of all federal contracting dollars annually are reserved for certified SDVOSBs.
This act empowers the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to set aside procurement contracts for Indian-owned and controlled businesses. The Buy Indian Act regulations in the Department of the Interior Acquisition Regulations (DIAR) part 1480 also apply to various bureaus within the Department of the Interior. These regulations promote hiring Native American employees and purchasing products, supplies, and services from eligible Indian Small Business Economic Enterprises (ISBEE) and Indian Economic Enterprises (IEE).
